2001 Ford Explorer Sport
hello and thank you for having such an awesome and info filled site. i recently ( last night ) purchased a 2001 for explorer sport v6 automatic. i am having a porblem putting the rear headrests back down, there are no buttons or levers to push and i cant seem to get them to go down. any help would be great. I would also like to know if there are any modifications (interior, exterior, exhaust) i can do to the truck. i will be doing an iol change today and was owndering how many quarts it takes and what filter would work on it?

thank you soo much , Kerri

ok i am dumb, i finally got it, i guess in the life of the truck no one ever lifter them up, so the inside of the seat holders to keep them up were kinda locked in a way, so i was rough with them and they finally went down. i rubbed wd 40 on the headrest rods and now they move sweeetly.. :D

Almost any engine past 4 cylinders take 4 Qts. of oil and one for the filter, making 5 Qts. total, as for the filter almost every place that sells auto parts, even Wal-Mart, has a oil & air filter book that shows you what filter(s) to use on your particular vehicle, ok? :)...............Al

yea i had the same issue as you. the '01 sport rear headrests are a pita... i had to use the pull/push like hell method until they started moving and then wd-40ed the hell out of them but they dont move sweetly yet, just enough that i could get them down.

wd 40 them and now they come all the way out with a simple 2 fingers to them pull up... thanks explorer forum

As for the Oil Change....I was shocked when I saw my EX takes 5w-30....I always thought that was for smaller cars...I ALWAYS had to use 10-30, or 10-40
