Ok first thanks for having me. Now I just bought a 92 explorer 5 speed and of course old owner lied about just about everything he could lol. Anyway I do have years of automotive experience just not a lot lately with 4x4. Back when I played with they still had shifters and you locked them in yourself. I did try searching my questions first and trying those things. OK my two problems on 4x4 side is first the front won't engage. Now the light comes on and I heard the motor engage. But no lock on the hubs. At first they just clicked so I pulled them out and cleaned all the grease I could. Grease was packed like a wheel bearing in both. Now could problem use better cleaning but after cleaning the grease still no lock but they didn't click when trying to drive in 4 high. The splines look good and all though. I had to replace the front brake lines today so I put it 4 hi then tried turning the splines and shafts while front was in the air and they would not turn. Don't know if that info helps or not. Second problem is it won't go into 4 low. I did hold the clutch and brake but no light and the motor doesn't turn and yes I did I have 4x4 top light on lol. Just no 4 low. I don't have the money to run out and buy manual hubs right now or I would. I did notice in the hubs the part with the three triangles did not move in and out free until I cleaned it. But again I just cleaned it with wd 40 cause that's all I had. Sorry it's long just trying to give all the info I can. I also noticed when putting the hubs back on in one position they would only slide halfway on, turn it and they went flat to the rotor and another turn they would almost touch the rotor but you could push in like a spring and they would touch. Sorry again for the long winding post lol.
