Hello all! I have recently been looking at purchasing a new vehicle and the new model (11-13) Ford Explorer is the one that has caught my eye. I'd like to get some information on purchasing experiences of others.

I'm really looking at the XLT trim with the Equipment 202A package. From my research, I see that these have an invoice of around $35000 and an MSRP of around $38000. When I actually begin negotiating with dealerships, would I look foolish if I started well below invoice price (pre-incentives)? It seems, through the research I've read, that most people start slightly above invoice but I have seen a few where they go well below and are able to get a deal. Any suggestions, tips, etc. on that or the overall buying experience?

What are the current incentives for non-Ford owners? I'm in graduate school as well and I remember others telling me that all manufacturers have deals for college students. Any other advice in that area?

I'm really trying to learn all of the information I can before I head out on my buying adventure. :)
