I have a 1991 XLT 4.0L V6 in mint condition, with a strong motor, and I want to do some upgrades. I am not interested in doing any suspension work, I like it exactly where it is. I am looking for the following items:

-Intake
-Headers
-Exhaust
-Throttle Body

Can you guys point me to some online shops that sell these products? Also, what am I looking at pricewise...from low end, to high end? I am in Los Angeles, so if any of you are around here, can you point me to a reputable shop with good prices?

Thanks!!!

mods

Welcome, I found this place about 6 weeks ago and its awesome! Almost everyone will try and help out, be patient. Here are some of the things I've done since coming here...bear in mind our trucks are same age so we can only push so hard...

Drilled air box- took it out and cut four or five 2" holes with a hole saw BELOW the air filter. Lets in gulps of air and sounds good when you get on the gas. Also have a K&N filter. $35 for filter, holes are free:)

Dynomax SuperTurbo exhaust and hi flow cat. About $250 and another $50-75 to put on at muffler shop.

Superchips or Diablo chip, about $175 from Chris at smartyparts.com. Tell him you heard at X Forum. Raises RPMs and shiftpoints. I don't have but some guys swear by them. Downside is you are supposed to use premium fuel.

You can get headers installed for about $400-500 if you shop. Don't know if that one is worth it.

Granatelli MAF is about $300, should be coupled with an increased TB, about $150-200.

Replace your plugs with Motorcraft platinums and get Magnecor or Jacobs wires. I have Magnecor, they're great. cyberauto.com

Definitely get Amsoil's Engine Flush and make the switch to synthetic oil. There are some Amsoil dealers on this site if you do a search. Also get their Powerfoam to clean the upper intake out, smoothed out my idle in addition to the plug wires.

Also, check out KKM True Rev intake. I see a lot of guys that have it, about $200 or so.

Hope this helps...:D

Welcome aboard....

I would go with a KKM intake, a custom cat back exhaust from your local muffler shop, change to synthetic fluids. That should be a good start...good luck....

If i were you id build your own adapter. And then buy a filter from K&N model number RU-3130. I think that intake is the best modification i have done for the price. Except maybe my stereo :p

Where would i order synthetic oil from? whats the name of it and how much is it? And how would i get the oil system clean befor i out the synth in?

bbk makes a tb for our cars, as well as a supercharger... you can also use a paxton S/C for the 91-94 models, but those are custom fabbed I think????

alec or troll could tell you more about the s/c's... both of those guys are my X performance heros =p

My KKM was less than $100.

Good luck....

Hey guys welcome to the board, to get your questions answered faster do a search. Just about everything has been answered before and there are tons of threads on headers, cat backs, TB, MAfs, everything, it will take you days to read it all, but theres a lot of good info to be had.

Good luck

Mat,

Do a search for Amsoil and you'll find a member, Gary--AgExplorer. He sells Amsoil stuff. He can walk you through the products and what you want to do. I would definitely make the switch to synthetic though.

The engine flush is a very low viscosity, highly detergent synthetic oil that breaks down deposits while its running through your engine. You let it idle for 30 mins or so and then drain it out and replace you oil. You need to use a new filter before doing this to catch all the crap. So when you swap filter, you lose about 1/2- 1 qt of oil and the engine flush when added replaces it.

I have heard horror stories from using "motor flushs"; be very careful.

I have switched many motors to synthetic and have never had a problem nor have I used any "snake oil" of any type.

Good luck....

This IS a motor oil. All they did was reverse the properties. Instead of a thicker oil like 10-30 they make it very thin and highly detergent. It isn't like an additive or stop leak. I wouldn't use that stuff either:nono:

Wow! Thanks for the feedback fellas. The vehicle originally belonged to my great aunt, who was the original owner. It was ALWAYS taken care of, never abused, and only has 95,000 miles on it. It runs perfectly really, so I am not worried about doing some performance upgrades. I will start looking into what I am going to do soon. Thanks
