Hi everyone, I bought my first explorer about two months ago just in time for a snow storm.
I fell in love with, however, a few weeks later the transmission started to act fun. Therefore, I'm having the transmission rebuilt.
My question is it has 155,000 miles on it v6. Therefore after the transmission is rebuilt I should be able to get a few more years out of it?
Thanks,
PS its a 2002 limited.

All depends on how it has been maintained over those miles. If you've gone through the site a little you would know your next big issue is the timing chains. Take a little time and do some reading, it may give you some clues as what to watch out for and listen for because at that mileage you are right in the window for issues. Welcome aboard.

I had my tranny rebuilt about 175k on a 2002 limited 4.6l V8 and I’m approaching 300k right now 7 years later. Car has always been maintained great though never missed a service.

The big question is about what engine you have.

If you have the 4.0L v6, then you have to be more concerned about the timing chains because they can fail without warning. The chains are expensive to replace if you can't do it yourself since the engine needs to be removed. If you have the 4.6L v8, there is a better chance that you will be able to run the truck for a long time on the new transmission without needing additional major engine work. Mind, that is only probability, not certainty.

Any 20 year old vehicle will need ongoing suspension work and at some point will likely need something(s) on the list of alternator, water pump, power steering pump, radiator, brake lines, coils, etc.
