'98 XLT AWD
Hi everyone. I've had my 98 XLT for about a year & a half, but just found this forum. I've been aching to start making improvements, but never knew where to start. It sounds like this is the right place.

I made a list of some mods I thought a beginner might be able to do:

1. K&N Injection Kit
2. X-Spec 3" or Gibson Cat-Back Exhaust
3. Granatelli Hi-Flow Mass Air Sensor
4. And if I feel real lucky.....X-Spec Suspension Package

If you guys can point out any relatively low-cost, beginner-skill improvements, I would really like to see them.

Thanks alot everyone. Hope I can contribute eventually.

awd- sounds like you have a v8 right?

in that case those mods sound pretty good, but i would recommend just having a shop weld the exhaust for you (the power gains will be the same and it will be cheaper) and then i would recommend the fipk, the mass air sensor, and a hyperech power programmer 3 or a superchips custom chip- all things you can do yourself. with those mods you will feel a good serious horsepower gain.

then don't get the explorer express lowering kit- you can do it yourself with parts you can easily get from napa, or checker. their kit is just lowering blocks in the rear and a torsion twist in the front. do a search for instructions on the torsion twist if you want.
