- '96 Explorer XLT
I became a '96 Explorer XLT on Monday of this week. We have had about 20" of snow in the last week and our poorly maintained 1 mile long drive was suffering big time BEFORE the snow. It's now impassable for anything but a 4X4. The XLT came to me with the "door ajar" light on and a rear window partly rolled down (seller said it just needed a new motor). Your site suggested the WD40 and contact cleaner treatment for door switches. It took repeated applications over 2 days but this morning, no more light and now the rear wiper works and the automatic door locks too, just like site it would. I also now have the code for the keyless entry thanks to you. And of course the partly rolled down window was a bad door switch, motor had to be OK to roll it down! I look forward to exploring other parts of the site and the stories of others. It runs strong yet has 215,000 miles on the speedo. I'm looking to use the vehicle infrequently but want to have a reliable truck my wife can drive with confidence too. So I expect to be returning here for ways to keep the XLT running well without breaking the bank.
Best to all, Gary
