Hey guys...........and gals :D, I figured I would stop in and introduce myself abit. I have been given a 97 4-door 4x4 Explorer by a close friend, it was his fathers who passed away and it has been sitting for sometime. I Highly doubt the maintenance was kept up all to well, but thats what this place is for :). I will be using the Explorer as my winter driver so I can put my rear wheel drive toys away for the winter (MKIV and SC's...........95 Toyota Supra, 97 SC300 and 96 SC400).

I'm hoping I can get a good amount of life out of the Explorer the way it is, but once it dies I will be doing a custom swap...........dare I say this on here :dunno:...................the explorer will turn into my project and I will be transplanting one of my 2 spare 2JZGTE engines into it. Its going to be a buttload of custom work, but thats what makes this all the more fun :)...........that is unless I get side tracked by some of the great ideas on here and I change my mind.

So far I must say there is alot of great information on this forum and I'm sure I will be spend alot of time farting around here.

Welcome to the forum and keep us updated with pics if you could. Sounds like a cool build.

Welcome aboard! :)

As I am total idiot, could you define MKIV, SC, and those engines?

MKIV is a 94-98 Toyota Supra and the SC is referring to the Lexus SC300 or SC400......The SC300 is a I6 2JZGE engine and the SC400 is V8 1UZ engine

welcome

Sorry im a nit-pick the mk4 series was released from 93 (they started the preliminary testing of them in 92, but only 20 models were built and they started being mass produced in 93) Until 98 in the US, 2002 in Japan. Sorry, Supras were my original love before i had a kid and switched to Explorers. Also if memory serves the MA80 chassis series(mk4 Supra), the 2jz was a Inline-6, not a v6, again my apologies, im a nit-picky individual. 2j swap huh? Sounds entertaining, but why not the 1uz? Will the straight fit into that engine bay? Anyways, these are just questions not attacks. :) Welcome to the forums!!!!:)

I just rounded it up because the 94-98 are the most common years in the USA, its cool that you know your shat about the poopras, I was expecting to put my flame suit on............yeah I saw my mistake with the V6 lastnight, but was to lazy to fix it lol....14 hours of work made me very very tired.

Well I have 2 GTE engines in my garage gathering dust and a few R154 and a340e transmissions as well. The 1UZ I have needs a rebuild before I even think about doing anything with it. My biggest ***** with 1UZ is the starter location.........it in the middle of the engine and when it craps the bed its a royal PIA to change out, I have done 3 already......I have seen people sell perfectly good SC400's because the starter died.

I have yet to take any measurements for either engine because I dont have the Explorer here, I'm picking it up late next week. Once I get it to my house and check it out I'm going to give it a tune up and hope it lasts the winter. In the Spring I will begin seeing what can and cant fit...........or sooner if it doesnt last the winter lol. I'm sure its going to be ALOT of custom work for either 2JZ or 1UZ to fit, but it will be fun to work on.

The 2JZ is pretty small engine.......its very surprising how small it is....the UZ...well thats on the larger side, but we will see which will fit.
