Hi, I'm a newcomer to the :exp:s. I was looking for a daily driver and considered a 1st gen .
Seems like this is the THE :exp: forum. Excellent.
I'm only interested in the 1st gen because IMO they are the best looking generation. And I'm a cheap *******.
I'd like classification on the following concerns:
1) Since I live in the rust belt (D.C. metro area), where are the popular areas for them to start rusting out?
2) Reliability. I know they are reliable to a degree, but back then, I kept hearing how the transmissions were junk. My future Explorer will be a manual, no exceptions. What transmission would it be and how good is it? IIRC it was some Mazda trans.
3) Mileage. More often than not, people are selling ones clocked at 150k+. Do issues show more with higher mileage?
4) I'd REALLY like a 4x4 over 2wd. Were the 4x4s available with the manual? And the 4x4 systems - manual or auto?
That's all I can think off the top of my head. Any more helpful insights are highly appreciated.
Thanks!
P.S. I am looking at a '94 blue XLT hence my username.
