I've been a lurker here off and on for a few years but have never registered because I don't really have anything to contribute.
But I've gotten sooooooo much useful information from this forum that I feel like the least I can do is post my thanks to all of you. Most of the jobs I've done I could have done solo, but the information gleaned from these pages has made the jobs much easier and less stressful.
I just installed upper and lower ball joints, and outer tie rod ends on my wife's 2003 Sport Trac. A local shop wanted $750 to install upper and lower ball joints and have the front end aligned using Mevotech parts. If I wanted Moog parts the price went up another $100-150. I bought the parts online of course, all Moog, and decided while I had it apart I'd go ahead and do the tie rod ends. I bought a ball joint press kit from Harbor Freight, and had the front end aligned after I was done. All told I spend $310 for everything: parts, tools, alignment, shipping, etc. I took my time and followed the write-ups on here, which were great. It really did go smoothly, the driver's side pivot bolts came loose easily and the rear bolt wasn't too much of a pain to maneuver out, especially after I read how much of a pain it could be. The ball joints came fairly easily and pressed back using the ball joint press and long 1/2" breaker bar.
Again I want to thank all you contributors who make the life of a Explorer/Sport Trac owner just a little better.
