Today I ran across a system from Nitrous Express said to made specifically for Ford 4 and 6 cyl engines. I know many on the site are skeptical about nitrous for Explorers, but it might be an affordable alternative to a supercharger. I know I couldn't use it all the time, but it would be nice in some sticky situations :)

At $500, it is cheaper than any power adder yet-to-be-done on my truck, and would truly make my truck a sweet sleeper.

My truck only has 35k miles, so the engine is still in great shape. I know nitrous creates higher temperatures, is the 1996 OHV capable of handling it? I'm basically only worried about premature engine failure. Thanks for the help, and ask me any for any info you need to form an opinion.

(BTW, I'm going to racenet in person the next time I'm in Houston)

I'm no expert on the subect Alec, but :nono: I wouldn't do it. If ya plan on keeping your truck for a short time, I guess it would be ok. Another thing is I wouldn't want to use the nitrous often, and it would be temping to use it, probably more than ya should. What kind of "sticky situations" are you referring to? I would stick to the more natural stuff. I would take that $500 or so and get headers. Headers make more difference than you would think. But hey, just my opinions. I like to take care of my engines, and nitrous is definetly not the best thing for them!

I am considering the ZEX unit from Vanir - its made specifically for our explorers, not a 4cyl or 6cyl Ford in general(check out. Unfortunately superchargers are too much money and bolt-ons will never achieve the same amount of hp when combined to that of NOS. Of course, like everyone has and will state, you must be careful when using this stuff, but with that, there are many books out there, providing insight on safe using to avoid damage to your engine.

Of course, maybe by next year I should have one fully installed. I'll take pictures of those people with there mouths wide open from the fact that I just blew away their sports car (I am allowed to dream, am I not?)
