Anybody have any experience with these? I'm thinking 295/75R16s. I need some "street" tires that might still have some offroad ability. I'm driving too many street miles to leave my MTRs on full time. I like the wide footprint of the Nittos compared to others and my Dunlops are worn to the bone.

A friend of mine just ordered a set(edgeex), but they haven't come in yet, hopefully by the end of the week. When She gets them on after the lift, i'll let you know what she thinks about them!

Nittos

Great! Thanks.

Anybody else?

same here, Yomie. i have a friend that just ordered some for his 4x4 tow rig, basically for the same reason you want them, ExplorGM. as soon as he gets them on, i will "evaluate" them and let you know. wont be able to tell you about wear, though.

if they are anything like the street tires, i will tell you this. i am a tire builder, and have always been impressed with the quality of Nitto's. i run NT450's on my X, and i love them. dont know how the Grapplers will work in mild off-road situations, but Nitto's in general are some damn good tires IMHO.

FYI- Nitto is made by Toyo.

Tire Builder

Thanks for the Nitto info. Build quality is important.
I was going to wait for the Firestone Destinations to come out, but I'm still gun shy when it comes to Firestones!

why.. did firestone have some problems recently that i'm not aware of?

j/k :D

Firestones

Just a rumor...!
Actually I had a set on for 50K miles with no problems...

The Terra Grapplers have something like a 500A B wear rating (according to their website ~ I've also seen them listed as 400A B and 440A B) which is pretty amazing for an A/T tire. I was originally looking at the Yoko's but have heard that the Toyo Open Countries last longer, but now I'm looking at the Nitto's b/c they are made by Toyo and are more aggressive than the Toyo's. The best price i've found for them is $97 (265-75-16 ~ which are usually more expensive b/c of the 16" rim) on onlinetires.com.

Also, anyone ever heard of a Falken Landair A/T? its a pretty good looking tire and I know Falken is pretty big on the street import scene.

EDIT: According to Discounttiredirect.com, these tires are comparable to the Michelin LTX's in quality

onlinetires.com

Have you used onlinetires.com before? Their price beats tires.com, which is based locally even with shipping.

They don't list an address, but seem to be based in CA? Anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, no... I hadn't even heard of them untill I randomly stumbled across the sight a week ago. They also have the best prices for BFG AT KO's that i've found yet... Talk to Discount Tire they price match if you're sketchy about onlinetires.com.

Love 'em

I have the 295/75/16 Terra Grapplers on my F250. They are a great tire for the size. I work for Discount Tire so I have been able to compare their quality with that of BFG. So far they have proven far easier to balance, have very few instances of out of round, and seem to wear very well. I have about 7K on mine with no adverse wear even with a race car like driving style. I have no off road experience with them, but they look like they would be as good as any other all terrain.

So Mr. Discount Tire... you think Discount Tire would price match these tires to onlinetires.com? I can get them shipped for $447 (265-75-16) from onlinetires.

Also, how do they look on the truck? Are they as aggressive as an AT KO? I hate how some AT tires are really wimpy, like the LTX A/T's that my GF has on her stock '96... they just look like an car tire with more space between the treads.

Final ?
Ride quality? Noisy, rough, etc?

I do alot of highway miles (my truck is my only vehicle) so I truely need an 'all terrain' tire, but still wish I could have the look/grip of muds... oh someday i'll be able to afford 2 vehicles.

Michael

Thanks for the feedback. The 295s are the size that I would like to get, but I have not found anybody that has them here. Can you send me picture(s) of your truck with them on? I checked your Elite thumbnails but nothing is posted yet.

I saw a Toyota with 325 18s and they looked huge!
I'm thinking 305/70R16s on the back and 295/75R16s on the front for the street only.

Online has some great prices, but limited choices. Discount Tire online has them for $155 and my local Discount tire has them for $164 with mounting and balancing included, so pretty close either way. Online is about $131 plus shipping and mount/balance. Comes out pretty close either way.

Any pictures you can provide of your 295s would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Rick

Rick, I'll get you some pics later today. I got a little busy with work the past few days.

Hokie-- the definate answer to your price match question is it depends. It depends on how badly I need your sale that day etc, but I personally won't match an online tire price, they are not comparable. The 265 lists for about $152 installed. So by the time you pay for mounting, lifetime balancing, and valvestem on your online tires you are at the same price or higher than my retail.

Thanks Michael

Looking forward to the pictures when you have time. No rush.

Its true that when you add shipping, mounting and balancing that the prices can balance out and in some cases be better to buy retail. Especially when you factor in the convenience of initial installation, and inconvenience of having to return or repair a tire.

That does not mean that you can't find some screamin deals out there online though if you shop...

Caveat Emptor (or something like that...)

Yeah, I would much rather buy local, and it seems like the online prices are good, but you do have to add alot in cost just to get the tires on your truck... Unfortunately, we don't have a discount tire or any large chain near me... All we have are local goodyears and stuff like that.

Thanks for your help Micheal, and I wasn't asking you to pull any favors for me. (People had just told me that Online Tires will price match)

Just got 285/75/16s.......LOVE THEM! Look great on the X, ride great. Got mine at discountiredirect.com for $133 including s/h. Only cost me about 45 to mount and balance them.

No noise on the highway? They look pretty aggressive and have a amazing wear rating (440-500 depending on size). Any pics? Also, any rubbing, are they on your factory rims, and how bad have the 33's screwed up your speedo? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm trying to decide between the 265/75R16 or the 285/75R16 (I'm only going to use a 2" BL and a 2" TT/War/AAL etc)

I'll be working on her rear bumper this weekend, and will have access to a Digi Cam on Saturday, will definitely have pics then. She went with the 285/75/16's and they BARELY rubbed on her sport, maybe we had to trim less than an inch, and yes she used her stock 16's
