No 1st gear in 4R44E

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 3.0 with the 4R44E auto tranny and it has lost fisrt gear. When I put it in drive it starts out in second and shifts fine through the rest of the gears and the torque converter locks and unlocks fine. When you manually put it in 1st nothing happens it clunks a little but no movement. Any ideas?? Thanks a lot! I am thinking shift solenoid just not sure which one. Also no check engine lights or anything like that.

Welcome to this forum! Do you have reverse? How many miles do you have?

I do have reverse, everything seems to be working fine, just no 1st gear. 126,000 miles on the truck. Thanks for the welcome

The low/reverse servo has O ring seals, and a cover gasket. This rear servo applies the rear band. Do you have the original EPC solenoid? Did you ever rebuild the valve body? I would suggest that you read the sticky thread called the 5R55E valve body rebuild diary to get familiar with the inner workings of the valve body before rebuilding it. A blown gasket, sticking spools, leaking seals, and loose valve body bolts could cause similar symptoms.
