No 4 wheel drive

I have a 2002 ford explorer that will not go innto 4 wheel drive. It will not give any indications on the dash ( 4 high or 4 low) when I press the dash buttons. I don't hear any clicking or noises from the control module or shift motor. This is my son's truck and I can only get my hands on it once and awhile, drives it mostly on the highway. Any suggestions would be appreciated as to probable cause and trouble shooting.

Welcome to this forum! Check to see if there is any power going to the shift motor when you try to engage 4WD. Did you check the front hubs?
