It seems that I have no 4 wheel drive and it will not engage with buttons on dash no lights at all for 4wheel

2002 explorer No 4 wheel drive

2nd the module issue. Seems problematic for the 2002's. And, there are a few variations of the module, of which only one will work. So get your OE number before buying.
