First, a little more information is needed: Does 4auto work at all, or do the lights blink from the moment you turn the key on?
P1812 is the code for 4WD mode select Circuit Failure
P1824 is the code for 4wd Electric Clutch Circuit Failure
I wouldn't suspect the GEM as it's the GEM that's detecting the problem. I assume that since you were able to obtain the GEM diagnostic trouble code, you can also monitor the GEM PIDs using the same piece of equipment, no? If so, I can walk you through the diagnostic routines for the two codes.... But lets start with the obvious things first.
Fuses:
Interior fuse panel:
#28 (7.5A mini)
#10 (7.5A mini)
#20 (7.5A mini)
Battery Junction box:
#4 (30A MAXI)
There are others, but I would not suspect them because they would have other issues associated with them...
Both diagnostics point towards either a switch failure, a TOD relay issue, or a clutch failure, or some combination of the three. The easiest place to start would be with popping the bezel off and seeing if the wires became disconnected from the switch. I would also check the resistance through the switch between the two middle terminals.
AUTO: 3700-4100 ohms
4HIGH: 1050-1150 Ohms
4LOW: 340-380 Ohms
If that looks good, there are a few more things we can check from there.... But start there and let me know what you find.
