Hey guys,
Just moved down here to HOT AS HELL Florida! AC Blows moderately cold air (Feels like it just needs a recharge),but only when driving over 70 mph. Went to recharge the unit the other day, and there is only a clicking sound coming from the driver's side of the motor. Tried to pump some R134a into it (The system had been retrofitted long before I bought it), and it won't even accept it. I held down the trigger on two different cans with the same result. It doesn't sound like the compressor is kicking in, but doesn't that need to be working in order to have any cold air anyway?
It's too hot down here to survive without any A/C! Can someone please help a fellow out?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob, the system needs to be running to take in additional refrigerant they way you are doing it. It isnot like putting air in a bicycle. I did a thread, it is in the Under the Hood and Driveline section, all about AC... check it out.

Rob,

First, check to see if the compressor will run (front of engine, driver side), should hear a click and then see the clutch engage and spin. If you are getting cold air at all, it has got to be running. If you are hearing repeated clicking (every 10 seconds or so) it's probably the low pressure switch kicking out the compressor. In that case, you need to get a recharge. Like the last post said, it has to be running while you are adding the 134a.

If the compressor is running OK, I would check your coolant level since you say it gets better at high speeds (seen that one mine). Also, could be a problem with the fan.
