No Chime or Int Lights when D/S Door is open

Got a 2001 Explorer Eddie Bauer today. When I open the Driver door the dome lights done come on, the door ajar doesnt come on, and I dont get any chimes (Door ajar, or Headlight On).

I hit it a little bit with WD-40 because I had the exact opposite problem with my 03 mounty (would constantly chime and say door ajar and lights would stay on) and that solved it. However, after 2 hits with the WD-40 still nothing.

Suggestions?

Replace the door ajar switch. Check it's wires at the wire bundle on the door hinge for a break if that doesn't work.

Onelever: How do you get the wire bundle at the door hinge open to check for broken wires? My door lock switch on driver's door locks but does not unlock doors. Since all works fine from passange door lock switch, I'm guessing based on all I have read here that I have a broken wire on the drivers side. However, I am afraid that if I open the rubber around the wire bundle I will never get it closed again and will end up worse off.

Have you made an progress on this? I too have the same problem. My exploder thinks the driver door is permanently shut. My lock buttons work fine however. I too tried spraying a bunch of WD-40. How hard is it to get to the door ajar switch?

I was wandering through the depths of the How To archives and stumbled upon this thread. Although the wire bundle cover is a little different for both of us I believe. This thread from the ages will give you access to both sides of the bundle which is a start.
