Several months ago, we were having a problem with the daytime running lights staying on after shutting off the truck. We had to start, and shut off the truck a few times until they went out. Once we had to drive around the block, shut the truck off, to get them off.

NOW.... They won't go on at all. The headlights work, of course, when turned on, but not the DTR's
Anyone had this problem? I don't know if maybe there was a short somwhere, which finally blew a fuse or somthing, (the inside fuse is OK), or what.
I know what they charge for electrical stuff at the shop, so, where do I start?

Thanks all.

Probably the DTR relay.

Daytime running lights? Huh? I guess that must be a Canada thing...

No, there was one in my area like that at a dealer. I looked at it and couldn't figure out why the headlights where on and nothing else. Must've been a hit or miss thing though.

Well, thanks for the compliment.

Hockey, Basketball, the tellephone, etc. yes, But daytime running lights are on vehicles all over the world now, I don't think we invented them.
And, thanks Alec, I will check the relay tomorow. 15 amp, I think.

Well no, there are many vehicles with daytime running lights here too, but to my knowledge the Explorer isn't one of them.

My guess was that the Canadien models had that option, and the US ones didnt...

They're required in Canada, that's why ;)

I disabled the DRLs on my VW.

I have a 97 sport with DRL's and have experienced this myself. It is the control module just below the drivers side headlight by the fender. The lights will stay on even after you turn the truck off. I just unpluged the module until I could make it to Ford too get a new one. I think it was like $55.00.

You just didn't like them?

BTW- Alec why'd you get rid of your Explorer? How'd you decide to get the VW?

The DRLs in the VW cut the life of your headlamp bulbs by 1/2-2/3. I always turn my lights on when I need them, and live in the South, so bye!

The X was requiring too much time and maintenance and the mileage was poor. The VW can haul stuff, is fun, fast, and gets good mileage.

There are a few threads on the switch.

BTW, I may get an offroad kart to have fun in the dunes around here.

As well... Not only the headlights, but the tail lights are now law for vehicles built for here. Seems too many people saw their headlights on, and didn't bother to think their tail lights wern't, and drove in the dark like that.
I am curious as to why you would disable them though, Alec. It sure makes cars more visible in a lot of different weather conditions.

Like I said above, I turn on my headlamps or fogs when I need them. I'm a very safe driver.

that's another reson why i am glad i don't live in canada(?)..to me DRL's just look STUPID..sorry but that what i think..i run with my fog's/parking light's on for the extra safty..and the fog's/parkin light's look's cool too

Just a few tidbits here about DRL's:

1. They were law in Canada starting in 1990 for trucks.
2. They do NOT use the headlights. The high beams are used at 50% power.

The Drl module is really a POS, and is prone to loose connectors. Shaking the plug on it sometimes makes a good connection.

In mine they use the headlamps.

Gee. Thanks for that one. I would like to know your Other reasons, but I thought I had a Legit. question.
Thanks for the help I did get though. I will look at the module tomorow.

Btw, since the highs and lows are in the same bulb in the X, even though the high filament is used, the life of the low filament is reduced by the heat.

Come on.....that is rediculous!

FYI....I use my real headlights every day, they are on everytime when my x is running.

I have put in MAYBE three headlight bulbs in 7 years.

That is different.....That is auto headlights. They come on to a preset time, or when it gets dark out. Running lights do not turn on the full head lights.
