No first gear with 91 EB auto

Hello,

The 91 Eddie Bauer I'm looking into doesn't have 1st gear anymore. My question is this, is there anyway to tell when the transmission will just go to hell or is it a quessing game? Seeing its obvious it needs a rebuild or a new one, would it cause any problems to try to drive it on the highway until it dies?

If it doesn't have first, it shouldn't have reverse. You need to try it in other gears to see what it does. Mst parts in the transmission perform multiple functions. Can't think of any condition where you would just loose first.

I will check into that and get an answer back to ya tonight hopefully. I know it has the higher gears and can travel on the highway, but like I said I will post again later. Thanks for the reply btw
