This one has me stumped. I get power to my right brake light and middle light, but not to the left brake light. All other lights are working.

I've tried looking for breaks in the wiring, but I haven't found anything going all the way up to the drivers side kickpanel.

Did you pull something while cleaning up some of your wiring?

If ya lived closer I would let you borrow my " Fault Finder "

Push comes to shove just link off the third brake light or the right

That's what I was thinking.

but than the blinker wont work

I dont think he has to use his turn signals too often. ;)

I'm looking at the schematic for a 93 which I found here:Dead Link Removed See figure 20.

The power for the stoplight comes from the stoplight switch (aka BOO) and goes to the 3rd brake light directly and to the Multifunction Switch. From the MFS, there are two separate wires feeding the LH and RH stoplights respectively.

I would suspect that your MFS is messed up and supplying power on one of those wires but not on the other. If not, there is a possibility that you could have a bad ground on one side, but this would be easy to verify or eliminate as a cause by running a separate wire from the bad stoplight to ground.

Rick, Does the reverse light work on that side? Maybe the connector in the jack compartment that trailer lights can go into is loose?

Any idea where the Multifunction Switch might be located... I've never heard of that one.

The turn signal switch is called the Multi Function Switch because it controls the wipers, the washer, the high beam/low beam besides the turn signal.

I have no clue why the stoplight circuit is routed thru the MFS, but that is what they show on the schematic for 93.

Get a DVM and 2 straight pins, then poke them into the 2 main wires and check with the DVM for 12V. Keep going back on the 2 main wires until you find the 12V. Mark that spot. Just before you find the 12V is where the break is. To determine which wire. use the straight pin again on the same wire just before the 12v reading and after the 12v reading ( where you marked the spot) and read for continuity. Which ever wire doesn't read 0 ohms is the bad wire.

I've already done that Ray. I traced it back to the kickpanel and there is no 12v on that wire :( So it could actually be that the multifunction switch (turnsignal switch) is bad. Or the break is behind the dash :banghead:

check for inner corrosion

Check for corrosion inside the light housing(?). That was my problem on a 98 sport.

Thats what I was gonna suggest, sometimes the simplest things are the last ones you check, spray some WD-40 in it

Same Problem..... All work but the left light

Ok, this isn't a big problem, but it is really annoying! All the brake lights work but the left (driver's side) one. Sometimes it will work when it wants to, but most of the time it doesn't. Here is the funny part. The low beams work, but when I push on the brake pedal, the right light gets brighter and the top center one lights up, but the left one doesn't change brightness. I have replaced the bulb, checked for voltage, and sprayed WD-40 in the connector to clean it out. I have no idea where to go next. Where can I find this multifunction switch or does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks everyone!

P.S.... Is the multifunction switch the silver round switch that clicks when you activate the turn signal?? If so then I am going to Autozone and picking one up ASAP:)

The schematic for the 94 is the same as 93 with respect to the brake light circuit. Therefore it is possible that it is the multifunction switch causing the left brake light not to work while the center and right brake light are ok.

The multifunction switch is the same as the turn signal switch. The round silver thing is probably the flasher unit. I don't think replacing the flasher would fix your problem.

So, now I get it..but where is the multifunction switch. How can I get to it and replace it?

Here's a thread showing a picture of the MFS.

I found a writeup for a 2nd gen MFS, but not for 1st gen. It should be similar.

Thanks so much! It's really easy. I will give it a try soon!

Just went to the dealer and picked up a new multifunction switch. Installed it and everything works PERFECT!!!!!! I narrowed the problem down to the multifunction switch by depressing the brake pedal and then ever so slightly pulling back on the turn signal switch just like you would flash the highbeams. As soon as i pulled a little bit on the signal, the brake light came right on:) Thanks for all your help.
