No reverse

Hi everybody,
I just rebuilt my tranny(92 A4LD) and installed the TransGo shift kit. Everything works great, except I have absolutly no reverse. I am trying to eliminate possible causes before I tear into it again or take to a shop to fix it. Has anyone had any experience with the TransGo shift kit? In the shift kit instructions(printed in 1991) it says to install 5 checkballs in the valve body, however the rebuild kit only calls for 4 so I put in the 4. The 5th checkball has to do with reverse and is not used because the later models have a special reverse engagment valve. Has anyone encountered any similar problems with the shift kit or lack of reverse? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Boy good luck with that question. You are probably way ahead of most us on that. I think a lot of us here are more familiar with experiencing difficulty with the A4LD and just paying to have the darn thing rebuilt!

I really do admire your ability to tackle a tranny rebuild though!! By the way, do you think it is a more or less reliable transmission than most?

In my opinion (based on what I have heard and learned through this rebuild) the A4LD isn't quite up to the task of any heavy duty use such as 4 wheelin or towing heavy loads. I beefed mine up a little by adding the shift kit and a kevlar faced, fully brazed torque converter. Now if I only had reverse.....

Mudbug,

Where did you get that torque converter?
