HELP!! My 2001 Sport Trac intermittently does not want to start. The engine turns over but does not "fire up". At times I wait a few minutes and then it starts other times it will not start no matter how many times I try or how long I wait between start attempts. I have had it to the Ford garage 3 times not. The first time it cost me over 500 dollars even though they said they were not sure what was wrong. After getting it back and having it for less than 2 days the problem presented itself again and right back to the Ford garage after trying to get the truck to start for an hour. The garage had it for a week and it started for them every day and every attempt. I got the truck back and it was problem free for just over a week and then WHAM the problem was back but this time no amount of attempts to start worked. The truck was towed to the Ford garage where after being lowered from the tow trailer immediately started when the mechanic went to move it to the garage. I received a call from the dealer today and the truck has continued to start on the first attempt. I am not once agian with out my truck and it has been 4 days. I really need to know what the problem could be. I am thinking the fuel pump is intermittent or maybe there is a pressure problem in the hose someplace. So please help me if you can. I guess I have to come back here to find the answer. Thanks everybody. Did I post to the right place?

Welcome to this forum! Do you hear the fuel pump prime when this occurs? Do you see the check engine light turn on when this occurs? Did you check the fuel pressure, or replace the fuel filter? Check the engine coolant temperature sensor to see if it's out of spec.

I will have to check next time the engine does not start. Yes the check engine light is on as all of the other warning lights when I try and start the truck. The fuel pressure has been check at the Ford garage and it is good. I will also check into the temperature sensor for engine coolant to see if it is in Spec. Thanks for all the helpful information. Now I just have to wait for the next time my truck does not start.
