The tail light circuit does not go through the multifunction switch.

Do your license plate lamps work? If so, I would suspect the problem to be in the black connector behind the bumper.

If your license plate lamps do not work, do your front parking lamps work?
YES, then you probably have a defective headlight switch.
NO, then check fuse 5 (15A) in the Central Junction Box under the dash.

All other lights on my truck work! even the licsense plate lights. i bought the headlight switch also, im not so sure i want to attempt to wire it in! is it under the dash!

how do i access the black connector behind the bumper? and will i need to buy a new one and wire that in?

If your tag lights work then there's nothing wrong with your headlight switch since the same wire feeds both the tag and tail lamps. The connectors for the rear lamps and the rear power point in the bed are behind the rear bumper, attached to the rear cross member. (Black=Lamps, White= Power Point) You need to check terminal # 4,brown wire (& all others) for corrosion.
