I have posted an earlier thread regarding a lift for my 1996 Explorer. I thought I would pass on my experience to others in trying to get this done. According to many reputable buisness's here on the West Coast that do lifts, it seems just 3 weeks ago I could have gone to a number of places and got a 3" lift for my Explorer. But, since the recent developments revovling around the Explorer the buisness's are staying away. According to a well known lift shop the manager quoted, " Noone will touch a Explorer right now with a 10' pole". Seems many are worried about liabilities. Once again this manager told me that there is a letter(internal at Ford) dated 1990 that states that the Explorer has a higher roll over rate than any vehicle Ford has ever made. Firestones had nothing to do with it(the letter). The recomendation from Ford to run the tires at a very low PSI to compensate for the high CG of the vehicle has in turn made the tires wear very quickly. Regardless, I love my Explorer and will look into the torsion/add a leaf option. And I really enjoy this site.
