When I turn the steering wheel to the right of left it makes a clanking and rattle noise. Any ideas??

noise in steering colum

Umm.. Put it in park and turn the wheel left & right and see if you can determine where the sound is coming from on the column..

I got it
I pulled apart the streering wheel and right underneeth where the horn is was the problem. The damper had come loose from the rubber supports and needed to be replaced. I called the local for dealer(Wondries Ford, Alhambra,CA) for the part and they told me that Ford quit making that in part in 2003. However, I did find the part at one of the local junk yards for 25.00 dollars. It was a piece of cake!!!!!
