I have a 97 XLT 5.0 AWD. There is a faint grind at low speed and progressively gets louder the faster I go. Now when I hit about 40-45 and up and take my foot off of the gas I get this rattle/vibration/noise from the front end like a loud brrrrrrrrrr. I took to mechanic and he said that it was a bad front rear. Stating that on the AWD models the front end also has a front rear (as well as rear end). Needless to say I did not have the work done, am going for second opinion on that.
I have searched through the post hear and have seen to check U-joints, Drive Shaft, Ball Joints, and Transfer Case. Now I do not have the space to do the work so I have to rely on a mechanic.
To run down the issue....Over 40 cruising along if I take my foot off of the gas I get the loud brrrrrrr sound, and the truck vibrates. I have tested going down a hill and put it in neutral to take out the engine and tranny out of the equation, and the issue is still there. I have new shocks/wheels/front hub assy/alignment.
I am going to take to a different mechanic Friday to have second opinion, even better if there is any one that is close to White Plains NY and has worked on this issue, or knows of a mechanic that is good and trustworthy would be great.
But most off is there anything in specific other then U-joints, Drive Shaft, Ball Joints, and Transfer Case that I should make sure that the mechanic checks for?
Thanks in advance!
