I have a 2001 explorer xlt, and my manual says my foglight bulb is 899. The 899 bulb does not match the bulb that is in my car. The bulb is much smaller then an 899 and the plug is a 90 degree angle.
I purchased the car new, so i know it was never messed with.

Does anyone know the correct bulb number for this??
thanks

Not sure what the bulb # is from your description, but it should have it on the plug.

You have a picture?

I think it's 9145 for the rounded fog lights. I've heard 9005 works well in that spot. Any inputs from '99-'01 owners??

The bulb definitely looks like an H1, except the plug. I can easily remove the plug and put in an h1. I will let you know if that works.

On my 99 XLT 5.0L its an H1 55watt bulb.
I just checked it on Sunday.

I have a '01 with round fog lights. My book says 899 and the bulbs actually installed are definitely not 9145 size, which is the same size as the 9005 headlamp bulb.

The bulbs I actually have installed are the type that have an H-1 bulb in an adaptor. I can't compare to an 899 since I've never seen one in a parts store.

I had assumed that I could use 9005s, but the base of the 9XXX series bulb is way too big for my lamp.

the 9005 is to large to fit into the bulb hole. I have ordered some H1's so hopefully there will be no problem.

You just replace the bulb and the metal, not the plastic part, and it is a 55W H1

I received the H1 today and all is good.

Much as I hate to throw fuel on the fire, Sylvania apparently has H-1 Silverstars available:
