apologize if this is an old subject, but I didn't find it. Have 96 Eddie Bauer 6 cyl with about 140K miles. Just looking for advice on whether to ignore this and wait for it to get worse or work harder to fix it.

Have chirping noise about 75% of the time. Does not vary with engine speed and is not heard at idle or when rev'd in place so I don't think it's the engine or pulleys or anything.

Does vary with wheel speed. Doesn't matter whether it is in gear or not. Doesn't go away when brakes are applied - until the car stops of course. No pulse in brake action, so my guess on warped rotor or something doesn't look likely. Kind of what it sounds like though. No obvious brake issues.

That leaves me with dry U Joints (mechanics guess) or bad wheel bearing (my guess, but I thought that would grind rather than chirp). If it's the joints, I let it get worse until I can tell. If it's the bearing I thought that would be a bad idea.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
