Could a slipping transmission cause the it to be hard to start? It is a 96 Eddie Bauer 6 cylinder. it will crank and start when cold, but once hot it you have to crank it and crank it and it may start, but usually it has to cool down before it will start. Once started it runs fine. My brother has replaced the mass air flow ( I think that is what it is called) some box on top of the engine that has wires going into it (I am not a mechanic and cannot rememeber what it is called) He also replaced the fuel filter and said that it is not the fuel pump because he can hear it working. Once in a while when it finally starts, the transmission will not shift and I slowly go into 2nd and then into drive or reverse. When this happens, it sometimes will run rough for a few minutes. Need help soon, car problems may cost me my job. I was working 3 jobs and I have lost 2 of them because of this. :(

Have you checked your linkage or pressure plate? It sounds like the clutch may not be disengaging...

Sounds similar to my issue- maybe we can eventually figure these out.

My Ex is hard to start when warm- starts great when cold. Starts great within 5 minutes of shutting off engine. If it warms up and I shut it off for ~1/2 hour then start it, I need to crank it for 10 seconds to get it to fire up. After that (and all other times) it runs great. No codes.

I just noticed that the dash lights are dim when I try to start, and as the 10 seconds elapse, the airbag light gets progressively brighter until it starts. I don't know if it's a voltage issue somehow and the coilpacks are not getting adequate voltage delivered to them to start the truck.

Battery cable? Thoughts anyone? Might solve both of our problems...
