in my previous posts I made things sound very confusing when trying to understand the 87 ranger conversion to obd2. what tranny to use/ computers/sensors etc... i made many people on this site frustrated with me trying to explain to me how it all works to the point where my posts seem to not be answered anymore. haha.. i apologise.
i will be honest that i learn more with hands on. and my posts were done before i took it apart. nevertheless I am very greatful for this site for putting up with my nutty posts and not understanding what was being told to me.
I have so far completed modifying the inside of my extendacab and exterior. dash, seats, steering wheel, dome light in the ceiling heater box, floor shifter, airbag sensor etc.... for others attempting to do this I think i educated myself enough here and on my own to explain it. so here it goes!! i will list some of the obsticles that are hard to get around.
believe me when i say think twice before attacking this project.
imean it , its a big one
SEAT BELTS ( you have to convert door post to fit adjusters)
CEILING (you have to make bracket for dome light and sun visors)
INTERIOR TRIM (make brackets all around ceiling and measure out holes for plastic plugs to go. and cut slots around door frame for door trim to slide tabs through.)
WIRING ( drill hole under drivers seat to run harness for fuel guage/pump, rear lamps etc... and cut rectangle hole drivers side to mount the 3 square plugs the go to engine wiring)
PUT IN NEW HEATER BOX, CUT HOLES IN FIREWALL for new blower motor,bolt holes and for heater core. REPAIR ALL OTHER OLD HOLES.
MOVE BATTERY HOLDER TO OTHERSIDE
SWITCH WASHER/ENGINE RESERVOIR INFRONT ON PASSANGER WHEEL WELL
GET SMALLER EVAPORATOR FOR WILL NOT FIT BEHIND RAD AND CANT FABRICATE.
HEADLIGHTS--- NEED TO CUT PLUGS USE SCHEMATIC TO WIRE IN LIGHTS
TURN LAMPS--- JUST TURN IN BUT SIDE MARKER SPLICES INTHE TURN LAMPS

MASS AIR FLOW TUBE CUT HOLE IN INNER FENDER AND FABRICATE TO BOLT IN

CUT HOLES IN UPPER FIREWALL TO MOUNT DASH BOARD AND USE PLATES WITH POLYVARITHANE SCREWED OVER HOLES AFTER DASH INSTALL TO ELIMINATE EXHAUST FUMES GETTING IN PASSANGER COMPARTMENT

I WILL BE USING THE RAD FROM MY 2.9 AND TRIM THE SHROUD SO IT DOESNT TOUCH THE PULLEYS.
I DECIDED TO USE THE 87 A4LD TEMPORARILY TILL I CAN FIND A ENGINE WIRE HARNESS FOR MY 1997 AUTO ECM. AND USE THE 1997 MANUAL ECM TO RUN THE 87 A4LD TRANNY.
TOOK SPEED SENSOR OF MANUAL AND PUT IT ON A4LD (ELECTRONIC)
87 RANGER 3/4 SHIFT IS VACUUM CONTROLLED NOT WIRED TO ECM.
88 AND UP 3/4 SHIFT IS ECM CONTROLLED ALONG WITH TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP SOLENOID.
87 RANGER ECM ONLY CONTROLS LOCK UP TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID.
RED POWERS ONE SIDE OF THE PLUG, AND THE ECM SENDS A GROUND SIGNAL TO LOCK UP THE TORQUE CONVERTER THROUGH TERMINAL 53 ON ECM.
1 STILL NEED 3 QUESTIONS ANAWERED IF ANYONE HAS KNOWLEDGE ON THE
SUBJECT.
1 WILL THE 3/4 SHIFT SOLENOID (VACUUM CONTROLLED) RUN IN OVERDRIVE WITH OUT THE LOCK UP TORQUE CONVERTER PLUGGED IN.
2FOR THE LOCK UP TORQUE CONVERTER IF I WERE TO WIRE A GROUND TO A TOGGLE SWITCH FOR THE GROUND END OF THE PLUG. AND RAN THE RED WIRE STRAIGHT TO THE EGR SOLENOID VALVE RED WIRE. WOULD IT WORK MANUALLY? CAN I DRIVE AROUND TOWN WITH THE LOCKUP NOT ENERGISED, AND FLICK A SWITCH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I TRAVEL AT HIGHER SPEEDS.
3 AROUND WHAT SPEED WOULD I HAVE TO FLICK THE SWITCH IF THIS IS POSSIBLE
80 KMS, 100 KMS. AND WHAT SPEED DO I FLICK OFF THE SWITCH WHEN I SLOW DOWN.
