Ok I have a list:

New valve body replaced ( shift kit too) shifts great but now it has a much harsher shift into 3. Intermittently.

I will be looking into the bands but I have a funny feeling it is related to other problems. Maf??

Rpm problem at start up and a false temp reading on the dash. computer console says everything is fine. Shop also said temp was ok.

Hits weak or dead spots when shifting at times. Mostly going onto turnpikes. Once in awhile the check engine light will come on. All fluids are taken care of more often than needed .

Any information would be helpfull as I am about to drop it off and want to make sure I avoid any pitfalls others may have seen or experienced.

Thanks.

Have you checked all your battery cables and ground straps, cleaned and reseated them. Reseat the temp sending unite connector as well. A fuel pressure reading may help you see the condition of the fuel filter but you need some codes to help narrow it down. Yes cleaning sensors like MAF can help eliminate things but you need the codes. Try Auto zone for a free code read.

Thank you I will be getting the codes read. When I had the transmission fixed the engine had already started with the high idle and the computer reset by disconnecting the battery did not seem to fix any of the symptoms.

I think it is electrical and this weekend will be doing a little trial and error with the simple electrical connections. Thanks for the advice. There is also a recall on the rear wiper and a few other electrical connections that ford will be taking care of as well.
I forgot to mention this is a 2000 2wd limited with the 4.0 I figured if we avoided all the extras like 4X4 and v8 we could avoid more problems.....lol

The good news is the shifting with the new valve body is great when it’s running properly.

Thank you I appreciate your advice and will let you know how it goes.

Well after playing with the problems and the timeline of events this is what the very simple problems were.

First the fan clutch was going and the thermostat was intermittent. this caused periodic overheating. So the "tec" who checked the car said it was not overheating...what he forgot to mention is that it never showed any sign of overheating when he tested it so how could he know the gauge was reading correctly.

So assuming the gauge was bad and the thermostat and clutch were working fine I ignored it..... lol what a joke .

Finally the engine went into limp mode and started to throw engine codes regarding the temp.

Thermostat changed and clutch changed and wala my AC, shifts and all related performance issues are fixed.

I still need to change the IAC and replace the transmission heat shield because the cheap stock heat-shield rattles.

I did notice in limp mode under hard acceleration the shifting was much much harder and really sped the shifts up as well as the rpm limit seemed to be not there.

Now it behaves much milder but still shifts much better with the shift kit.

I might even make one. I was looking at it and it is a poor design...

If I make one it will be bigger.

Is it really hard to find?? Did you go to the dealer?

I figured I might have to make one or a better design with the new one I buy.

I called 2 different dealers. One guy said that it was about $30. Another one said that it was $130! I think these dealers make up stuff when you ask them questions over the phone. One place that I went to always tells me a price before they order it, then changes the price when they get it in. Another dealer once sold me a fitting for a P/S pump for $60. When I went back to him a week later for another one, he charged me $30 for the same one!

Ok well I will ask my dealer what they want for it. If they want 130.00 I will use my old one to make a new and better one.

I figure this weekend Ill chase it.
