I have a force II catback system (has a 50 series non-delta I believe) and its not as loud as I would like. I've heard that the 40 series non-delta is loud.....I think thats what I want:D :D Anyone know if it'll be what I'm looking for? I'm not worried about it being too loud, worried about not being different enough to be worth the $60 extra bucks.

I have the same problem .... i want a gibson cat back but i dont know if it will have a louder tone ... some people said that it is only a little louder than stock ... i dont know if it will be worth the over $350 for it. I am not looking for something super loud ... just a little rumble from my v8 when i hit the gas.

I'm sure with a V8 you'll have a easier time getting the sound you want. BTW, I've heard a lot of good things about flowmaster sound... Do they make a dual system for V8 Explorers, that would probably be sweet.

I dont think Flowmaster makes one. I know They make a muffler that will work but i would have to get pipes bent and i am not very fond of my local exhaust shops. When i had my mustang every year i would fail inspection because of exhaust rust. The guy told me that i didnt drive my car long enough for it to warm up to temp but that wasnt the case. The factory exhaust lasted a few years and after i had it replaced it was all downhill from there.

Gibson is the only one that i know of that has a stainless steel catback system that will just bolt on. Dynomax also makes a bolt on catback system but it is aluminized not stainless. I am hoping to drive my truck to the ground so i want an exhaust which will last through the years.

I had a friend with a thunderbird with a flowmaster system and it sounded pretty good. I dont remember what series it was though.

you wont regret going with the 40 series. i have the 40 series delta on my v6 and it really sounds good. exactly how i wanted it. loud enough so its really noticeable but not annoying.

i have 40 series non delta on my X and my early Bronco. dont worry about it not being loud enough; just ask my neighbors what time i leave for work...:D i can hear my wife pull in the driveway in my X with the TV blairing. it will be plenty loud.

I do not think the Flowmasters have a good sound.
They sound tinny at best.

I do like the stainless steel Dynomax setup although I have just heard a Gibson cat back system on a newer F-150, 4.6 and it sounds really good, mellow, throaty but not excessively loud.

My thought on your overall exhaust project, listen to a system on a vehicle like you have with the same engine.
The exhaust sound can change from vehicle to vehicle just by the way the pipes are bent and the output of the engine.

Good Luck, pricey mistake if it does not sound the way you want.

Tinny at best? My 40 series (non delta) makes my little V6 sound like a whole lot more! Heads turn when I drive buy, and they're looking for some thing other than an Explorer, I'm sure. If you want a strong sounding exhaust, the flowmaster 40 series is THE way to go. And mine only cost $160 installed w/ 2.25 inch cat-back pipes.

I'm running a 40 series delta when my truck was 4.0, if you look at the data on flowmasters site (if they still have it) the 40 delta was the same noise level out side the truck (infact alittle louder) then the reg 40, only diffrence is the sound on the inside, just a tad bit quiter (least what the data said)
for me inside the truck you can hear the exaust, not overpowering and you can drown it out with the radio without going deaf, outside even at idle you could feel it rattleing the office trailer at one of the jobs I worked at, at WOT under load it sound really sweet :)
4.0 set up was 40 delta, 2.5 pipe high flow cat, custom bent cost was around $300 (this was 4 years ago)
keeping the 2.5 pipe and 40 delta with the v8 swap, should be neat to see how it sounds behind the 302 with headers and highflow cat :)
