I am so glad I didn't decide yesterday to not change the O-rings since I found a huge squishy vacuum leak on the underside of the pcv elbow going into the Intake......because hold an old gasket(O-Ring) is two different colors......Light blue and gas/oil brown.....they are certainly not as thick as the newer ones and some were either shaved off or just knicked up.......

Is there anything else I should do while this thing is out of there short of cleaning the surface of course........I can see why the CEL was on......and I was popping all those p0171 and p0174 and such......would the large amount of gas the PCM was trying to use to compete with the extra air cause the p0316 misfire code?

Because of the heat, they will take a permanent "set" meaning that they will eventually conform to the space available and won't spring back anymore. Because they take a set, even if they weren't leaking you shouldn't try to reuse them - they won't seal a second time.

Not to worry dogfriend

no way would I subject the truck or myself to anymore abusive lean codes ..... they do form a nice little temporary substitution(when manipulate the right way) for the IAC gasket I didn't have when I purchased the vehicle.....then when the new one came in you could see the difference in performance......but with no gasket it's horrible. I searched around here for two weeks for these new little blue beauties.....I will not let that be for naught.

Desperately Need Some Input B4 I Put Intake Back

tHERE ARESEVERAL PLACES WHERE IT LOOKS LIKT THE EDGES AREN'T EVEN.....AND i CAN'T TELL IF THE UNIT WAS BUILT LIKE THIS OR NOT. ALSO WHERE IT MEETS THE LOWER IN TAKE...ON THE OUTER EDGES THE COLOR IS BLACK BUT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A MISSING LAYER....IS THIS WHERE SOME SEALANT IS APPLIED? aND ONE OF THE HOLES WHERE THE LOWER AND UPPER INTAKE HAS A SLIGHT CHIP ON IT. I NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S OK AND I CAN PUT IT BACK. HOW TO FIX IT....IF I CAN DRIVE IT TIL I CAN AFFORD ANOTHER ONE.......ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

No need to shout, my friend.

From looking at the pictures, it looks to me like it was made that way. Remember that the actual sealing will be between the top and bottom surfaces where the o-rings contact the upper and lower manifold(s). If the outside edges of the two pieces don't line up, it won't really matter as long as all of the o-rings seal.

Thanks very much, and sorry about forgetting to take the capslock off when I was done with the subject. I just wanted to make sure about that.....and the uneven layering on the outside .. I have seen threads where people were suggesting sealing the area where water would run in....I don't know if that applies to this model(02 EX Sport) or not.....but thank you so much for all the help so far.
