I have had two occasions in the last couple weeks where my gas gauge will be at 1/2 tank and I will go to fill up (I am impatient and want to figure the gas mileage out sooner) and the fuel pump at the gas station will shut off after putting 5 gallons or so in, forcing me to keep going back and forth between the ignition and the gas pump to get the damned tank full. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Does anyone have any ideas as to what kind of pain in the butt repair I will have to do myself, or get FORD to do it? Thanks guys!

I'm not clear on what you're doing.... are you saying you have to cycle the ignition to get the tank full, or the tank is only taking 5 gallons when it reads 1/2 tank of fuel? (which should be about 7 or 8 gallons)???

I'm not clear on what the problem is and what you're asking. Can you clarify?

It could be something as stupid as the float for the gas gauge has a small pin hole in it allowing it to fill with gas, casing an eroneous reding on the gauge. The reason it will work sometimes and not others is due to temperature and what air left in the float expanding and contracting either pushing the fuel back out or sucking it in. I have seen two floats with this problem so far.
