Ok, I was trying to save for a down payment on my own house, but the Ex had different plans.

I'm now aiming my guns at taking care of the problems that are expected to pop up in these vehicals, so i can have unwanted suprizes out of the way when i'm trying to make ends meet the first year.

Its a '99 Eddie 4x4 sohc/5r55e (updated as per tsb) with about 134K mile on it. Right now its going in for a full set of ball joints since its all out of whack and wont stay alinged, the enitire reason for the shuffling of goals. I was thinking next month i'll get new wheel bearings and end links, all new links and joints will be greasable. My brakes are good and im going to put them off till i have money for a full set of powerslots. It has the infamous tensioner rattle, i dont drive hard (3000rpm max on occasion) so im not really worried about it, i figure if i'm going to spend that kinda money ($1000?! thats what i was quoted at ford) i'm just gonna rebuilt it and have a fresh motor.

I am going to install an inline trans filter and oil drain valve after i get it back, and then change the fuel filter and maybe order an intake to try and save a little on gas (plus the mean sound... you got to love that).

anything else i should look for?

Don't get stuck like I did one night!

I'd change the idler and tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt, pretty easy to do to! :D

i'll add that to my list, i think i'm also going to add new universals and maybe front axels.

how'd you get stuck? ball joint failure? i cant do without a ride till monday so i've been driven granny style to tryy not to hurt anything.

the front axles on our trucks are pretty strong, and so are the grease boots - so you shouldn't have much issues at all with them

i just realized, you got stuck because of the tensioner/idler pulley. boy am i thick.

Looks like most of the stuff is only going to be around $400, cv's and wheel bearings are another $750-$800. i could probly do most if not all of this myself just need an alignment after some of it.

if axels aren't a normal problem area i'll just bump them to the "eventualy" list

Actually it was the idler that went.

It started getting noisey earlier that week, so it didn't take long to go afterwards.

You shouldn't need new universals either unless they are specifically going bad? They shouldn't be though on a daily driver.
