Hey I'm the new guy! Great forum, I have a 91 ford explorer 4x4 v6 runs great 80% of the time but the other 20% it looses power, will not accelerate, rpms drop, doesn't shift correct and there is a gas smell. When it does this I can come to a stop and shift the gears manually letting the rpms rise above normal before I shift and some times it will kick in and take off and I can put it back in overdrive and it will stop. Sometimes this has to be done several times to fix it. I have tried unpluging the mass airflow sensor but it doesn't help. I've put a new fuel filter on it and a new muffler. Someone has removed the cat. converter already. I thank you for any thoughts on what my problem is . Also it seems to happen on trips of 30 + miles.
