OD LIGHT BLINKING

HELP!!!! I have a 98 Sport, and the O/D light blinks incesantly! It doesn't do it all the time. It comes and goes. Pushing the O/D ON/OFF button on the gear shift does nothing. Anyone have to deal with this before. It's driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any help.

First thing is to check the condition and level of the tranny fluid. How long/miles since your last tranny fluid and filter change?

How does shifting feel when the light is blinking?

Tranny threw a code. I'd get it checked ASAP.

64 K and I've only had it since August, so I don't know when the tranny fluid/system was serviced. Do you think i should have the system flushed? Can I do it myself? How do I change/check the tranny filter?

My 2000 Sport has just had the tranny replaced and when I got it back the O/D light was flashing too. But along with this was a droning noise - both were intermittent. I took it back to the people who replaced the tranny and they said they couldn't see a problem. Is it likely that something related to the code is the problem? Someone else mentioned it could be in conversation. But as I am a British woman, who knows nothing about cars, the tranny people just laughed at me when I mentioned it! Thanks

Try unhooking the battery (after the codes have been retrieved) for some time to reset the computer codes. Sometimes with a new driver or engine conditions upsets the transmission and it wants to complain (OD light) about it.
You might check the condition of the fluid also and have it replaced with a full flush (all 13-15 quarts) system.

My light started blinking today and I recently checked the fluid last night because I smelled some burning fluid, could have been oil. Also, the tranny started sliping a little toay.

Very strange.
