Hello,

I recently had an aftermarket head-unit that fed into a Sony Amp with a 12" Sony Sub. Yesterday, I installed two 12" and ran them off the same amp. While everything sounds just fine, something's really odd. That is, when I had both RCA cables that fed from the head-unit connected to the amp, the subs really weren't doing much of anything. Not even noticeable. Then I pulled one RCA cable, (I think white), from the amp and - with only the other one connected - everything's kicking just fine.

I guess I can't complain since everything's working, but what's that all about?

check the 2 subs,, they may be out of phase, i have had this problem a few times,, switch the rca's and see if it gets better,

if that doesn't work,
plug the RCA's back in , and change the speaker wires to the box around a bit , see if it changes,, if it does , leave the wires on the best way ,

Thanks for the reply! I know this sounds silly, but is there any real harm is just leaving the one part of the RCA cable plugged in? So far, it's fine after a day and only one is plugged into the amp, (either red or white, not too sure).

My buddy had the same thing happen in his camaro with his 12's. We ended up unplugging one of the RCA plugs like you did. He kept it like that for about 8 months with no problems at all until he sold the car. You should have no problems at all

they have 2 for a reason, without feeding that side, only 1 side of that amp is working, ,
could cause problems later ,it will get hot , ,unless it is in mono ,and has that option for feeding it that way , some do,, some don't
also it is only using one side of the output on the deck, could affect the deck too ,

subs are out of phase to one another likely....rewire

Hey All,

So I think it might be an issue...

First, I just checked the subs and my dumbself through a 900W with an 800W. Not too sure if that'll make a difference but I do have the other 800W in my garage. But before I even get to that point, I think I have a problem.

I was driving into my work parking lot the other day and instead of gradually slowing down to turn in, I had to brake a bit harder to make my right. I definitely didn't slam the brakes or anything, but just not as gradual I guess. Then I heard like a weird thump and my subs stopped. I assumed the subs somehow tipped over or the amp fell. As of now, they're not working regardless of how I do the RCA cables.

Last night, I check all the wires to make sure they were good. Also, the amp is lighting up with the little green indicator - not really indicating there's a problem. I only wired the speaker wires to one sub and no luck. Also, when I put the RCA cables to my deck's preamp rear output, sound was coming out just fine.

Any thoughts?

How are they grounded, and where are they grounded?

Right now, the amp is just grounded to a bolt that's revealed when putting one of the back seats down.

Do you think it's a problem with the amp itself even though the indicator looks fine? The deck is absolutely brand new so I'm kind of thinking that wouldn't be faulty... though I guess you can never swear by that.

Sorry, but *bump*
