My 2001 SOHC EST did an odd thing yesterday morning. It started roughly, felt like it was running on only a few cylinders, lots of smoke and sulphur smell, bucking, and finally quit when I tried to drive it. I was thinking "oh Crap".

Let it sit for a minute, re-started it, and it ran fine. High idle for a few minutes, then settled down and has not repeated since.

Anyone else and any ideas?

Any codes stored?

No Light on dash, I will check to see if any codes stored.

No codes or any other symptoms, still running great.

So, a one-time issue then. I'd just like to know what it was?

Usually sulphur smell coming from the exhaust is the catalatic converters.
The day before the problem did you let it sit and idle for a long period of time?

Around 5 years ago, my ST started shooting out thick black smoke. IIRC it also died. Scared the crap out-ta me. I had it towed to the dealer. They called and found nothing wrong and no smoke. It never has happened again. Was your smoke black also? I don't recall a smell though as this was so long ago. I would also be interested in what that could have been.
