After owning my X for over 3 years, i found in the jack compartment an OEM trailer wiring harness. It looked like wires that were in use, but when it got caught on the jack and pulled out, i realized what i had.

After getting under the X and searching for 20 minutes, i still cannot seem to find where it plugs in. It's got a round connector with little tab(s) so that it plugs in the right way. I believe it has 8 pins in the connector. Ideas/pics of where it goes? I had previously purchased the wiring "tee" to join into the brakelight harness (?) and spliced in a plug to tow.

Thanks for any info.

i always wondered the same thing too. there iis one at the driver rear end too but the are less wire connected to it.

There should be a pig tail attached to the last cross member directly behind the bumper. I do believe its on the side of spare tire, and located more toward the passanger side. Ones with the newer style bumper have it housed under the tail light, older ones have it down near the bumper.

Not all X's came with this plug. We had to get ours added at the dealer so that the pigtail could plug in.

my was on the last crossmember aswell. 97 ex. almost in the center, there should be 4 wires going to a round plug. wires are yellow, green, brownand white. I cut off the connector and put my own plug on it. then took out the pass plate lite by the step and opened up the hole to mounted a 7 pin plug.

I remember seeing something along that crossmember (a white plug) but it didn't match

It should be grouped in the same wires that go to the Licence plate lights, so follow them back. It will have a cap in it to keep crud out.
