I just started to go off road in my 95 explorer what should i know. Pretty much i want tips also what parts of the engine shouldn't get sandy or wet, and what should i do to protect it.

Extend all your breather tubes.. they are in the front differential, transfer case, transmission, and rear axle. Also your air box is somewhat low, right below and behind the passenger headlight. When doing water crossing just be careful since you can easily hydrolock your motor if you go to fast or are in too deep.

Don't go out alone into something you're unfamiliar with, unless you have a winch.
