OH YEAH! Powered by Butler Tube Drivers.... *DROOL*
The problem with the plates is that they are a pretty small midbass, so they won't make much up-front bass, so the sub won't blend very well and be easy to localize in the back.
My personal opinions for midbass/tweeters: DEI Studios, Image Dynamics (IDQ mid+Comp horn tweeter, however this needs tons of power and good equalization), Vifa products, Focals... I used to love MB Quarts and JBL's, but their tweeters are much too harsh for me anymore, give me a headache.
The best speaker advice anyone can give you is DON'T BUY BLIND. Go somewhere, anywhere, that sells the brands you are interested in and LISTEN to them. No 2 speaker models sound identical, and what I may like in a speaker (I REALLY love those I listed and dislike Quarts, someone else said they loved Quarts... I'm not a big Polk guy, but I have friends that swear by them... Very opinion-based) someone else hates. It is very hard to describe speakers, only you can make decisions...
Anything is gonna sound better with a big amp, much cleaner and will play the lower frequencies better with the extra power... Its not power that kills speakers (normal power, not talking kilowatts here), but distortion, which is usually from too little power so they get cranked up past the clipping point.
We weren't arguing, we were discussing!
