inside the cylinder or on the outside of the plug where the wire attaches?

its inside where the cylinder around the threads of the spark plug.

Most likely the head gasket leaking into the threads. Are you loosing oil between changes? Is there a visible leak around the heads or only on the plug threads?

only on the plug threads.

When you pull the plug out, what does the plug head look like. Could you take a picture and post? If it's black and oily/greasy, it could be oil blowby from the crank case getting past the rings and fouling the plugs. It could also be valve stem seals that are worn out and dripping into the cylinder. Either way, you should see measurable oil loss between changes. If this is not the case, perhaps the head gasket is only leaking enough to get the threads wet and the threads are actually damning up the leak.

This sounds a little like the infamous intake manifold vacuum leak problem. I remember something about it showing up on that sparkplug. Try searching the board for it.
