2017 Explorer Sport
Hello,

Just picked up a 2017 Explorer Sport with a 3.5 Ecoboost. Was creating a maintenance spreadsheet as I do with all my vehicles. I was listing all the filters and fluids and the oil filter lookup has me confused. I thought it would be the same as my 2017 F150 with the 3.5, Motorcraft FL500S. But I am also seeing a Motorcraft FL910S listed. Any chance someone might know the difference between these 2 filters. Thanks

Where they are mounted to the engine. F-150 is a front to back engine, while the Explorer is trans "side to side" engine.
F-150 mainly rear wheel drive, Explorer mainly Front wheel drive.

FL500S is what I use on my 14 Ex Sport with 3.5 ecoboost.
Not sure why the 17 would be any different.

Reading 'The Google' it sounds like the FL910S and 500S are the same diameter and thread, just the 500 is longer. Go with the 500S.

You may want to edit the thread title. The 2017 doesn't have 305 Ecoboost. :D

The FL910 is used for the 2.0, 2.5 and 2.3 4cyl. engines. The V6 and V8 engines typically take the FL500 and I would stick with that one.

Sorry, yes I missed the decimal point and got the 0 and did not realize it till I posted. I'm not sure how to change it as this is only my second post. Will try to do better at proofreading before I post.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I was thinking that the FL500 would work and after doing some more digging I found mostly that the 500 is just bigger, but I did find a thing or two that were saying the threads could possibly be different. Guess that's one of the issues with trying to get information off the internet. Thanks again.

At the top of the thread you'll see

Click on the 3 dots and then select Edit thread. That will allow you, as the thread starter, to change the title.
