Oil Gauge.

I'm having a problem with my oil gauge. When I start up, it stays in the position it's in when the car is off. Of course the helpful "Check Gauge" light stays on. I've checked my oil level and it's fine. When it first happened I added an extra quart because I figured it was low. Nope. It does it mostly when the car is cold. I use a full synthetic.

Now my question is this. Is there a quick fix I can do to resolve this issue? Would it be best to let Ford do it? Or even better, should I get one of those cool pillar pod housings and get a real oil gauge? Obviously the first option would be best, as it's free. Please let me know if anyone knows what to do. Thanks.

Check the wiring at the sending unit to make sure it is not loose, cheapest fix of all...

That oil gauge your refering to doesn't measure oil "Height" it messures Oil Pressure. If your leaking alot of oil a gasket could be gone, even if it's not leaking the Head gaskets could be gone and your oil is leakinging into your radiator/water lines, usally it happens the other way becuase water and anti-freeze is thinner than oil, and slips through the gasket into the block(verybad thing). Just my two sence. The other thing (that mine does somtimes) is drop oil pressure unless i'm on the gas, I was told it's an air bubble, and i let my oil go a little longer then normal before adding a quart, and it dissipaerd.

I'm not leaking any oil. I have my own parking spot and there's no oil there at all. Also, there's no water/coolant in with the oil, so that's not it.

Yeah, I meant to say oil pressure, but I had momentary idiocy (that's probaly why they call 'em idiot lights).

Mine also jumps up sometimes when I put on the gas. After I start the car, and the gauge is all the way down, I can rev the engine and it'll jump up and then back down, after about 3 revs, it stays up.

I'll check the sending unit and wiring first. I'll just go from there. Now where is my Chilton's?

I had the same problem with my '01 Sport SOHC. There is a TSB on the issue. If the truck sat for a couple of days, or if was very cold overnight, the gauge would sit at zero and the "check gauge" light would come on...sound familiar?

I broght the truck back to Ford and they replaced the sending unit and voila! Problem fixed.
