Oil in antifreeze?

92 Exp Just replaced t stat on 4.0. Antifreeze looke like it had oil in it. Have noticed oil consumption up lately. Is it possible that oil is getting into antifreeze? If so how?

I think maybe if your head gasket broke in the right place this could happen, but I would figure you would definitely see water in your oil. See if there is white-ish scum on the oil screw cap. I had a head gasket go on an old car I had and it put coolant into one of my cylinders AND my oil..

If it was just a light oil sheen in the antifreeze you took out I would not get too worried.

I`m not an expert though, so play it out.
 






Oil in your coolant usually means a cracked head or blown head gasket. I wouldn't drive it and would get it checked out ASAP.
