 My daughters 03 developed an oil leak (no one would believe her, except me). She was going to drive it from Woodbridge to VA Beach this weekend. I checked the oil and there was none on the dipstick. I let her borrow the Expedition as I told her there was no way her explorer would actually make it to Stafford much less to VA Beach. Lot of oil on the ground. Yesterday a friend and I started trying to trace the source of the leak. We both thought drivers side Valve cover gasket. We started taking things apart. Got the power stearing unit unbolted and out of the way and found the source of the leak.
I don't know what this thing is for or what it's called, but I'll try to explain what it looks like.
It is suppose to be inserted in the front of the head, it had somehow worked itself out. It is about the diamenter of a nickle with an o-ring and a shaft about an inch and a half long then it has screw pattern about an inch long. We screwed this thing back in and put everything back together and then sprayed the heck out of the engine compartment and the bottom of the engine with both brake cleaner and gunk and now everything is clean and leak free.
Anyone know what this thing is called and what it is for or had this happen.

It only took us about an hour to determine what the problem was and correct it. Sorry for such a long post for first post.
