I have a Oil leak that I cannot find. There are no puddles in my driveway however I have to put in a Quart of oil once a week. No blue smoke from the exhaust. I get under the truck and no sign of drops hanging from the bottom of the engine/transmission. I have 167k miles on the original engine. Someone told me that the compression maybe off or that PCV valve is bad. I have taken it to the shop and they want to rebuild the engine instead of chasing a leak. Where is my $2.79 going every week besides on y'alls window when I drive.

What weight of oil are you using? And how many miles do you drive in a week?

Sorry to say that just because it doesn't smoke doesn't mean it's not burning it. We're seeing this in the trade more and more.

If it's not falling on the ground or showing up in the rad, the only place left for it to go is out the tailpipe.

TDG, I use 10w-40 and drive approximately 400 miles a week. I live in Mississippi, should I go to 15w or 20w?

Many, many years ago, my father-in-law owned a fleet of oilfield service trucks. He swore by "thin for burners and thick for leakers". The thinking is that the thin oil comes down off the cylinder walls quicker and stays in the motor for a little longer - worked for him......

Good one! I'll remember that.....
