hi all, i recently picked up a 98 explorer sport w/129+k miles, and i noticed that when i start it up after its been sitting all night the oil pressure gauge doesn't move until the motor gets somewhat warm. after that if i shut it off and start it, the gauge comes right up. the motor seems fine, doesn't make any noise or anything. iv'e had it almost a month now too, just wondering if anyone else has had this prob.? i'm thinking it might just be a bad gauge/sending unit? any ideas would be appreciated. thanks.

...it's the sending unit...they are garbage. I've had mine replaced twice on an 01 Sport. I have yet to get a 'real' oil pressure guage--but I plan to!

Good Luck!

thanks for the help, so i assume this shouldn't cause any problems then?

Mine did that too. Sometimes randomly going down the road. I figured it was the sender after driving a few miles the first time it happened.

Exactly same problem

I am having exactly the same problem Did you try a new sending unit? Did it fix the problem?

Adding a real oil pressure guage is a cake job. Two maybe two and a half hours tops.

When I first start my 2001 Explorer in the morning my gauge doesn't move for about 2 or 3 minutes, then it jumps right to normal. I didn't think it was anything serious and now, reading the posts here, I feel better knowing chances are theres no damage being done to my engine. Is there a way to fix the problem without replacing the sending unit or the gauge?
